i was wondering what people thought of boss . i recently purchased a .300 magnum with boss and i cant seem to find the sweet spot for the ammunition ( im using winchester supreme 180 grain bullets) if anybody knows the sweet spot or has any ideas dont hesitate :)

Every different rifle will have its one sweet spot as far as barrel vibrations go.
However, unless you are using factory loads only, the boss is a gadget not needed , as proper handloads do thr same thing.

The BOSS is old benchrest technology that was resurected by Browning in an attempt to make their guns shoot better, many in the industry believe it was a nice way to get a poor bunch of barrels out the door, and still save face by the maker for having the gun shoot reasonably well. I note that it is not offered now, I wonder why??? Any decent rifle with good ammo does not need this add on gizmo

Wish I could help you, but I can't. I ended up with several Browning "Lemons" that shot patterns, rather than groups. Sold 'em at a loss, both times, and vowed never to buy another that was made in Japan.

Older, true Belgium Brownings are a different story. As for your particular rifle, your best bet is to switch ammo. Try a different bullet weight or different manufacturer. Every rifle is different and some shoot Brand X, better than Brand Y. Good luck with it!

The two worst shooting guns on this earth seem to be brownings and Ruger. I have bougt a BRAND new ruger a few years back and it's best grouping was 4" and that is with 6 different boxes of shells. My experience with brownings isn't much better although it is a little better!

Go buy a Tikka or Savage rifle They are hands down the two best shooting rifles. (Sako is there two but no need to double the $ amount).

It seems like cars that people still keep buying guns cause there grandfather said they were the best! I am a production engineer in the automotive industy and I know the quality that goes into automotive parts. I can't beleive GM can sell one car...but they do! I feel many gun manufacturers ride that sorta GM wave!

I love my Browning because they are expensive, glossy, well fit, and finished, and I have Brownings that group 1" and under out of the box. As for the Boss, be it old or new technology, they look good, give you the ability to tune your loads and a muzzle brake on top of it. Its all good :D Change your ammo!

I owned one BOSS equipped rifle and will never own another. They are so loud that a single shot fired without hearing protection made my ears ring for several hours. The BOSS on my rifle aslo kept coming loose which changed the point of impact significantly. As well the BOSS equipped rifles come with shorter barrels to compensate for the length of the boss,so they produce less velocity.Lastly,my non BOSS equipped rifles shoot just as accurately or more accurately with careful load selection.
