Browning SA in 22 short

As an old member, I have what may be a stupid question here:

I had searched for something in the rimfire section and was perusing the results when I stumbled on an old post from 2009 involving 22 short ammo. On that thread I saw photos from an indoor gallery in Paris where the rifles being used were Browning SAs chambered in 22 short.

I have seen these listed in this caliber in a couple books in my library that are of European decent, but the North American books only list it in 22lr.

My question is if the 22 short chambering in these rifles ever made it to North America or is strictly a European thing?

They appear from time to time. Working strictly from memory I believe the short chambered version had a 1-20 twist whereas the LR model was 1-16.
