Hi Gents,
I just received my first FN Browning Safari. Made in 1967, and of coarse, in the formidable 30-06. It didn't come with any set screws in the receiver where the bases go. Is that standard from the factory or were mine just missing. If so, who would have them. I'll get pics up later. Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve: You are saying it is not drilled&tapped for scope bases? As far as I know all FN Browning rifles were D&T'd for scopes at the factory. The very early FN Hi-Power rifles that Browning basically copied were at first not D&T'd. I could be wrong and often are. I'm on my first cup of coffee.
Cheers

are you referring to the little plug (screws)? You can get those at just about any store selling and mounting scopes. I'll wager they have hundreds of them. They are usually removed when a scope is mounted and rarely replaced. Otherwise, I am not quite understanding what you mean by "set screws".

You'll have to remove those screws when you mount a scope.

Yes, I haven't figured out what scope to put on it yet. In the mean time, I think i'd like to shoot at some targets with its irons. I don't have any big game rifles to do that with and on hand. Its a lot of fun. I may test out its accuracy and load development with a 3-9 briefly, then go back to the irons with my load. My other 30-06 has a 3-9 and can punch holes on my good days and that I like hunting with. I don't plan on hunting with this rifle so much yet as I want it for Sunday fun. I must say, it feels much nicer in the hands looking the down the irons than my new Alaskan 375 which I wanted to shoot open sights with. The Alaskan got a 1-4 power and now its great to hunt with too. I can't WAIT to shoot a moose with that Alaskan!!!
