This is a two section inquiry. First, does anyone know how to take the spring tube out of the rear of the action of the Silver Hunter.? Secondly, has anyone experience with the Winchester 94/410 shotgun.? I am thinking of buying one and would like to hear from someone with experience of this gun.

Take the pad off. Then you'll see the tube. The spring is held in place by a small pin. Hold down the spring, push the pin out and it should come out easily. Careful not to loose an eye from the spring.

I doubt you will be able to straighten the tube. I would opt for a whole new tube and spring. Might save some future heartaches.

The problem is getting a new tube. I had the gun up at Epps for a new stock and tube and was told that due to the problems in Japan, it would be a considerable time before spares were available. I was a Tool and Die maker for nearly 50 years and should be capable of straightening the tube if I can remove it from the action. In the event of this being impossible, I can get a new one made. I also need a new stock but will be able to glue the damaged one as a temporary fix. I have left the new stuff on order at Epps so will eventually be able to return the gun to new condition.

I have one of the Winchester 9410s and it is a great little rabbit gun.Mine is the traditional version 26inch barrel with adjustable chokes and the tang safety

I have not worked on an SX-3 but on the SX-1 you simply take off the stock and the tube unscrews from the action.

Thanks,I just wanted confirmation that it was a screw fit as I could see no other way to fix to action. I will CAREFULLY apply the necessary force and remove it. As regards the 94/410, I am hoping to see it tomorrow and will buy if the price is right.! Thanks for you input.

I picked up the Winchester 94/410 on Saturday and patterned it yesterday. quite a tight pattern out to approx. 20 yards. Anyone know what choke restriction they have as standard.? Although the gun was new/unfired, the instruction book was lost. I was impressed with the cartridge feed from the magazine as I was a little doubtful about the ability to feed a flat ended cartridge up to the chamber without some problems. All in all, I am pleased with the gun.

The standard choke was improved on the earlier models, some like mine came with 3 screw in chokes.Does yours have the push button safety or the tang style.

Your gun is good to fire slugs in.If you search the web there are a few articles about shooting slugs in them.Go to Shotgun world and do a search there is a guy on there that has taken a couple of deer with slugs with one.
