Browning Superposed pigeon grade info

Looking for a value on this shotgun. 32" barrels, modified and full, excellent condition except a rub under the barrel where the forearm rubbed from disassembly. Made in 1972, not salt wood.

Are you sure the bottom barrel is not improved mod (*-) ?
It is a trap gun, looks like a Broadway rib. Where is the buttplate/pad, has it been shortened? Position of opening lever when action closed(centered, right or left of center)?
You will have to prove or guarantee no salt as it is a salt era gun.

Is it a short on long tang gun? Very few long tang Superposed had salt damage. I have a 3 barrel skeet set from 1972 long tang, no salt.

The lever sits slightly to the right, the wood is original and is not shortened proven by this pic with matching serial number, seems like most are clear of salt wood by 72, no corrosion on butt plate screws or anywhere that the metal touches wood.

Max the biggest indicator that it is a salt gun or not is the bottom tang , if long tang it is 99plus percent not salt. 72 guns do have salt I have seen them. Is the bottom tang around the trigger long or short, maybe a picture. FYI I think you have a gun worth more than 3k, thanks sidexeach.

The ** would be IM on Italian guns but not on the Browning.

I stand corrected. So are such designations found on Superposeds and older Brownings only?

Does that link open for you? It has a pretty good chart that shows markings/designations used by Browning, American, English, Spanish, Italian, perazzi.

I'm going to guess those marking are used on all Browning fixed choke guns.

I would say Struff55's valuation would be much more likely. Broadways are less desired / valued than field configurations. There have been saltwood long tangs, just far far fewer and most saltwood stocks were in the grades Pidgeon and above.

Max it's not a salt gun, take that gun to my club Waterford in Simcoe or Galt club and you'll get $4k for it.
