I wish to buy a very nice Bolt action .22 for my son as his first firearm. He is turning 12 years old soon and will do the junior POL course in January. He has shot my 10/22 for years and probably over 300 rds. After handling many options, I find that I like the T-bolt best of all due to look, feel, workmanship, materials quality etc. Are these guns as good as they appear? They are not cheap so I want some feedback from owners or those who have experience with them. How is reliabilty, smoothness of the action & last but not least, accuracy? I would like this to be a gun he can pass on to his son.
:)
Thanks in advance...

Accurate, light, smoothens up with a bit of use but a little disappointed in quality of materials. For $425 good grouse gun. For a bit more CZ 453 different league or TC R55 if okay with semi.

Have you thought about the savage mark ii classic. Exceptional quality and best of all... made in Canada. A nice feature for a rifle that you would like passed down.

Given the asking price, the plastic trigger guard is a deal killer for me. I would rather get a CZ, Ruger 77/22, or one of the original, Belgian T-Bolts.

Aye, I really really really like my Savage Mark II. Granted it's the TRR model, but I've tried a few basic ones, and I'll likely be buying one soon and getting rid of my Marlin.

I love my CZ 452 2E ZKM (varmint heavy barrel). One day I would like to get the CZ LUX with iron sights. Great way to learn body position and other basics. I think the receiver has a rail milled into it should you ever want to put a scope on it, but look out for the butt stock. I don't think it is angled properly for scope use and you might have to lift you cheek off the stock throwing off your position?

Savage and Marlin make great stuff too. I always wanted a Marlin 39A.

CZ 453 AMERICAN

FTW... Thanks for the input. CGN helpes me 100 times a day!!

Think you'll be very happy with the 453. The set trigger seemed a little odd to me initially as changes OAL and at 25M not seem to help, then tried at 100M... makes a difference. Try standard velocity CCI, may find it below 1 MOA at 100m. Lets not discuss how CGN advise ends up costing though...

Where are the $425 T-bolts at?

Both Bashaw and DelSelins had the camo model on for around $425 (plus tax & ship) - apparently its looks did not win many customers but no difference to me. Checked the Bashaw site, now gone (but Rem. XCR for $879.00... aaargh)

If you can get an older model (made some time in the late 60's to early 70's) they are very good shooters. I have a pre-patent T1 that my father bought some time around 1966-1967, in almost original condition, with the original peep rear sight.

It may be almost as expensive as new though, as I saw one in mediocre condition at a gun show about 17 years ago priced at $450. I have not seen one since (except mine which I inherited from my father).

Got him this:

CZ 455 LUX, he loves it.

Only place to find a T-Bolt at that price is the original ones, there out there and accurate as hell:evil:

If you are willing to spend good money on a 22 rimfire for your son, I would recomend a T-Bolt sporter with its unique magazine that works flawlessly or a CZ 452 bolt action!

There is really know better guns at this pricepoint made nowadays in BOLTS! You have to buy a Cooper or Kimber ,wich are 4 times the price of these other 2 well built guns.

I wish every father(father figure) would buy a good quality 22 for there child ,as this is the gun we train with, plink with andhunt small game with. You will never use your high powers as much as the lowly 22rimfire, good luck, Dale Z!

He bought his son the CZ above but I picked up an old t-bolt with the peep a few months back and it's a shooter!

The Z5 looks good. Can you get mags for it?

OP, I have both rifles you considered, and I think you made the right choice.
