Browning Trombone

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased an older model Browning Trombone, not sure how old. It does not have the dovetail scope mount. It is stamped for 22 long, my question is will this gun safely fire 22 short or 22 long rifle? The manuals I have looked at online indicate it can, but they might not be for the model year I have. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

You can shoot long rifle in it however I tend to shoot lower power ammo in all of mine (I have many) and I never shoot modern hyper velocity ammo through them (Stingers etc). They are solidly built but made mostly pre WWII so I suspect ammo was a little less powerful back then. I am guessing on this last point. I did hear one story of somebody who shot so much hyper velocity ammo through his that it pounded the bolt back into the side of the receiver where the bolt locks. Again it was a story I heard but it has made me exercise some reasonable caution with them but since I do most of my shooting with them at 25 and 50 yards it's not a hard ship.

Thank you for your fast reply, I didn't realize until after I bought the rifle that 22 long would be hard to find. I did get to try the 22 shorts, 29 grain, 710 fps and 22 LR, 40 grain, 1050 both worked fine. I am looking for an English version of the manual if anyone has one they would like to share.
