Browning VS Tikka

I have an older A bolt in 25wssm stainless anot X bolt carbon fiber 270 fluted. I also have 2 tikkas a 223 varmint and new T3x stainless in 243.The tikkas are my favorite. Dead nuts accurate, slick action

Get the one that feels better in your shoulder, you'll shoot it better. E.g. I've never handled an X-bolt, but I've handled the T3 in the Lite and Hunter versions. I dislike the Lite stock but the Hunter feels right - not just the synthetic vs. wood, the slight difference in shape does it for me.

Interesting point and I agree... wasn't too fond of the synthetic stock, but my wood stocked Battue feels right in my hands. For the record, the A-bolts are really nice rifles to, and a Browning might appear in my locker one of these days.

The A-bolt micro medallion chambered in 7-08 would be nice. :)

I would suggest just going to your local store and hold the models your interested in your hands and get a feel of them.

Both are great rifle in my opinion, depends more on personal taste when it comes time to choose.

I have both and have had several others of both. For me the biggest differences are: 1 - felt recoil, the Tikka's kick harder, noticeably harder: 2 - being able to open the bolt while still on safe for the Browning: 3 - the dura-touch stock on the browning: 4 - I find the bolt lift to be a lot harder on the browning after firing a round: 5 - I prefer the tang safety on the browning: 6 - I find the browning long actions easy to short stroke: 6 - Browning has a short action receiver to fit short action cartridges while the tikka only has long action receivers (not really a huge difference but kind of negates the advantage of a short action cartridge): 7 - Tikka has a very smooth bolt and I prefer the round knob on the handle to the flat knob on the Browning.

So all that being said I now have a 308WIN in the Browning X-Bolt and a 270WIN in the Tikka T3. My Buddy has a Browning X-Bolt Stainless synthetic in 270WSM and I have fired it a fair bit developing handloads for him. If I was reduced to just one rifle for all my hunting I would probably have that setup. It is surprisingly pleasant to shoot and the 270WSM still has enough reach to make the longer shots easier, it is accurate and handholds where very easy to develop (this will vary from rifle to rifle though), feeds really well.

As others have posted, if possible it is best to go and shoulder both rifles and see which one feels the best, don't think you can go to wrong with either.

Just want to say thanks for all the help! I appreciate all your opinions! Looks like I'm going to be going with a Browning in 270wsm. So it should be fun to develop some hand loads and see what it can do

Nice choice. I have a savage model 11 in 270wsm and thought about switching out for the xbolt to, just hasn't happened yet. Finish on the savage not near as nice and only holds 2 in mag compared to 3 for browning. Plus the savage has never let me down in 10 years deer hunting with it.

I say Browning, had a tikka not a big fan but for no quantifiable reason

But I say stay away from the short mags if you ever want to shoot factory

I've had both and now I only own one tikka, chambered in 260. I have several brownings. The whole plastic aspect of the tikka just turns me off. They are too expensive for wha they're made of. I also had a stock split on my tikka 22-250 just in front of the mag well. I also have had two mag follower springs on a 270 wsm and a 243 pretty much quit working. I don't like how they have one action for all and fill in the mags with plastic on short actions. And the plastic bolt shroud has been my nemesis since day one. If they didn't have a rep for accuracy, I'd put in in the same column as 783's or mossberg.
I do like the triggers on tikka, easy to adjust and better than some sako. But my brownings are not fussy about ammo, and they'll shoot sub-moa to moa with most factory fodder. I do like the 4 bolt system for rings on the xbolt, rock solid in my opinion but expensive. I like the feel of the duratouch over the tikka stock. I don't like the recoil lug on tikka, very cheaply made, but sufficient.
I chose browning.
