Browning with Sako actions

I have 2 custom guns built on the medium Browning-Sako action without the integral dovetails. A 308 with featherweight Douglas CM barrel and a 358 Win on SS Douglas barrel. Both are fitted with Brown Precision stocks and weight less than 6lbs overall.

I had one of those browning Sako action rifles in 222 Remington. It was on that cute little vixen action. However, it never shot as well as my plain jane 788 Remington, so I eventually unloaded it. Regards, Eagleye.

I have always been a fan of these rifles. The one I own now is a varmint weight 24" in .243 built in 1969. They have a good adjustable trigger, nice classic stock, and handle nicely. Some shoot well, some not so well.

Thank's Moosetracker: I take it you like the actions? Dan

Yes I do. I bought the remaining lot of actions (6) from Browning in Montreal when they closed down in the early 80s. Over the years I built custom guns with them. I still have the 2 left as above. They are in 308 Win and 358 Win.

The only downside is finding bases for them. You're stuck with Weaver #71 and #72.

I have one in 308Win. It's light, well balanced, has a good trigger and a stepped barrel. One of the nicest, carry rifles out there. Handles very much like the Rem Mod 7.

It shoots very well for the first two quick shots, don't bother with a third, unless it's very close. That stepped barrel is pencil thin at the muzzle end and heats up very quickly.

The fit and finish are great as is the wood.

Personally, I think these are the best of the Browning bolt rifles.
