I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge/experience about feeding from an X-Bolt factory magazine after a rebarrel. I would be looking to turn an X-Bolt 30-06 into either a 338-06 or 35 Whelen. My concern is whether or not the larger bullets will feed smoothly from the factory magazine. The X-Bolt isn't chambered in either round from the factory.

One gunsmith I spoke to felt it would work, although he didn't have any personal experience doing it. Just thought I would "crowdsource" some opinions before pursuing it further.

On a separate but related note have any gunsmiths here rebarreled an X-Bolt?

The reason I ask is that a very well-known gunsmith in the Shuswap has been telling clients that X-Bolts can't be rebarreled as they have 'pressed-in" barrel tenons. I have heard that the X-Bolt with it's fine threads and locking compound can be difficult to disassemble but are they so difficult to work on that a gunsmith will resort to spreading false rumours to avoid working on them?

If anything the magazine can be dremmeled after pulling it apart. Just did this to get 284 win to feed from a standard short mag for an xbolt. But used a carbide burr in a die grinder.

Try a 338-06 or 35 Whelen in your 30-06 magazine and see if they will feed up and into the chamber... they only need to start in the 30-06 chamber and they will feed the rest of the way in a correct chamber...

Not all gunsmiths can re barrel this model of Browning ... but many can.
