Hay fellas/girls (Politically correct),
I'm in the market for a new or new to me lightweight rifle. Now I don't want to spend a bunch of $ on a rifle that I'll use for maybe a week or so a year. I'm getting on and was looking for a light rifle that I would use on deer and the occasional moose. I must explane that I'm a shotgunner and I just traded my 7mm-08 Kimber 84 for a 47E Merkel. My mind can justify a $3000 ++ shotgun but not a $2000 rifle and scope that sits in the safe for 11 months a year.
I've narrowed my choices down to The T3 (7mm-08, .280 or 6.6x55) and the Browning Xbolt (7mm-08 or .280). I have handeled the T3 -- liked it -- found it a tad front heave (not a bad thing). Have not had a chance to fondel a X-Bolt yet.
Anyone compared the two?
Cheers, John

Hey John .... Check out the T3 Hunter or Deluxe with the walnut stock. You might find that they balance a bit better and are certainly easier to look at then the all plastic T3 Lite. I've had one of each, currently owning a T3 Deluxe in 223.

.

Tikka's are far and away my favorite non-custom rifle. Light weight, accurate, great trigger, well balanced (front-heavy is usually a good thing for off-hand shooting) and you don't have to spend a dime on gunsmithing to make them that way.

I was considering both of those rifles and ended up getting the T3 lite. The trigger is nicer on the Tikka, and not that it really matters, so is the bolt. I haven't regretted my purchase, I shoot mostly my reloads through the Tikka, and it pretty much likes all loads.

Tikka vs Browning

I have a couple Tikkas and a Browning.

I like 'em both.

I have the T3 in camo/stainless 270win and its the best shooting rifle I've ever owned(including some $2000 ones)
The bolts on them are like butter & the triggers are amazing for factory!!
Cant go wrong for the money IMO:rockOn:
Either wood or synthetic ya cant go wrong with a T3!!!

i have come to love the t3's in laminate. have two now and will be adding more. they feel totaly different in the laminate verses plastic. i have a couple of synthetic ones too but would like to switch them out as i can afford.

I'm a Remington Man, but of the two choices, I'd go with the T3, preferably in a laminate stock rather than the tupperware stock. Any of your caliber choices will reliably anchor a moose. I would prefer using a heavy-for-caliber bullet though. All three are ideal for deer. I've taken Caribou with the 6.5X55mm Swede. Love that round! Too bad it isn't more popular.

Tikka's use the same action for everything from .222 to .338WM. They just use bolt stops and different mags for the short cartridges. I've owned 3 T3's, but the plastic stocks suck. Get the laminate.

I've yet to fire an X-bolt. Have fondled one at the shop, but its hard to form an real opinion without carrying it and shooting...

As far as I know, the T3 was never made in .280 Rem. If you want that one, you'll have to get the X-bolt or a Rem 700 LSS...But for your purposes, any standard cartridge will work. Personally I would get a .308 or .270...

own a t3 in wood in 338 win mag andlove it!!!!
stock is kinda plain but i prefer wood.
owned it 3 years now and never had a problem with it.
shoots better than i can.lol
so far no complaints.
consider the 7/08 also phenomenal round!!

T3- Go with 30-06 for diversity of factory weights of bullets; 243 for up to deer size game; 270 is a good choice too. Dont matter the caliber, but stay away from the browning. I hate the trigger something fierce
