Not long enough makes more sense,as very little thread protrudes out past the bottom of the front mount.

Is it possible to drill the two front holes a little deeper?
Enough to get a couple more threads to engage.

Would that create more of an issue? Drilling into the barrel threads?

Take it back to the Smith with the base and screws.

I did,
He said the screws are not engaging the threads.

I could tap for bigger screws or drill the front two holes a bit deeper.

Into the barrel threads.

I'm going to try and find 8 new screws,see if that works.

Maybe call Tally,see if they'll sell me 8.

Also thought about sanding a bit off the tip of the front screws.
That would remove a bit of the taper,allowing for more thread engagement.


At this point,Im about ready to throw this in the Bay.:)

And why are those frickin barrel threads that far back ?


Also,I'm not to worried about the mounts coming loose,I've fired 20 rounds and nothing has moved.
So it seems that the other two screws are sufficient.

I'm merely thinking of resale value.

Sell as is or get it fixed and sell it.
 
If the threads in the receiver are actually damaged, Brownells oversized 6-48 taps with matching screws can resolve the problem, and get a scope base securely mounted.

Yes, buggered screw holes in a receiver will affect value.

I can screw all screws into the receiver,without the mounts.

But when I try it with the mounts,the two front screws won't engage the receiver tthreads.

Maybe I have the mounts on the wrong way? I'll have to take s look at that.

( And I don't mean front to back but maybe the front mount,can only be pointed in one di.
 
If the screws fit properly and pull up firmly without the mount, but don't engage properly when the mount is in place, then there is an incompatibility problem.
I would be inclined to start with screws that are too long, and shorten them one at a time, custom fitting each screw for maximum engagement without bottoming out.

No,when I put the screws in the mount,there appears to be very little thread protruding ,from the bottom of the mount.

Like if I had two more thread,it might be good.

Now that I think about it,

When I first stat to turn the screws in,they feel like they're starting to engage.
For a couple of turns,and then just spin out.

Is it possible,the screws have a tapered edge,and the first thread is stripped?

If you do go the route of longer screws, be careful as you torque them down that you aren't bottoming out on the barrel threads --- you don't want to snap your screws and compound your issue.

Given what you've said, I really would be inclined to send it back to your gunsmith for the fitting.

I'm not sure,
I've had the Talley rings on and off a few times without issues

My problem started when I installed the one piece rail.

But I take full responsibility for the screw up :).

Talley Inc, are going to send me out some more screws.
I'll wait and see what happens.

I'm still not sure it's only a stripped screw problem,anymore.
