Brush rifle in 308, best of both world....

Why does a brush gun need to be a lever, pump, or semi-auto?
Because it's tradition, and you don't mess with that!

Does that make the bullet less prone to deflection?
Yes. I can shoot through 6" trees with my pump.

Or do some people just need quick second, third and fourth shots because they feel shot placement doesn't matter when not in open country?
You could go with a Ruger #1 if that blows yer hair back.

Sheesh yourself. <grin>

I own an American in.243 that i topped with a 4-12x40.Even with this scope,it's one of the lightest rifles i've carried and it shoots very well. For the brush though,i have a savage 99E lightweight carbine in .300 sav and a marlin 336 texan in .30-30.These two are such a pleasure to carry in the woods,it's hard to leave either in the safe when i go hunting.

Because it's a little slower to empty the magazine at a running animal with a bolt action.

A short operating bolt action is very fast to, at 3 occasions in my hunting career i downed 2 deers coming out of the gully, 2 time with my Scout Steyr 308 and one time with my Sako Fin 243, long action caliber maybe another story... JP.

I think your XCR-M will make a better brush gun and this one will make a nice all around short range hunting rifle. Your grand kids must love it when you go shopping!!!
Have fun.

It is never an expense when i go shopping knowing that my loved ones will enjoy the toys i buy, if they were not there, there would be almost no reasons to, they are the first i will show a new rifle, they... JP.

Looks nice a nice setup caramel.

Personally, I'm fine with a bolt action brush rifle. I've shot 3 bears at 15 yards or less with my little Rem 600 in .308, and more than once gone into bush after previously hit big game with that rig as well, and never had a problem.

I really like that little scope BTW. I've kind of gotten hooked on finger adjustable scopes; you shoot a couple of head of game with them and you just never want to go back to kentucky windage again!

Yes this scope i bought for my Swiss Black Target but at the end i fitted it with a Bushnell 10X40 Tactical, it just make a great combo with the Swiss, ( this rifle deserve 10X magnification for full potential ), the reticule on that Nikon M-223 is one of the best for fast aquisition and it weight like 12 ounces, with time, we do loose the feel of low powered scope, but for an inside 250 metres job they are just fine on a deer size target...
