Brux Barrels

Brux makes some good stuff, in fact they are showing up occasionally on some of the big US benchrest match lists of equipment. My one vicarious experience with them is my gunsmith had to straighten one that he was installing for someone on a 7wsm... Never seen that with a Krieger.

The fact that they illegally export them to Canada puts guys that do things legally at a disadvantage, however they are on the State Department radar.

how is it illegal to bring a piece of drilled out pipe into the country. there is no chamber or anything cut into it. the way it is sent you couldnt possibly shoot it.

Simple, the State Dept says it is a controlled item. (critical firearm part).
If it was pipe it would not be controlled, but having rifling put in it and coming from a company that makes gun barrels mkes all the difference.
This shares the same logic as buying a piece of thick plywood from Boyds and making your own stock and having the plywood declared a gun part needing an export permit based on the rough shape and dimensions, BUT you can buy a 4x8 sheet of thick plywood from a wood specialty company that does not need a permit as it is considered building material.
Make no mistake I don't like this sort of logic, but that is how it works.

My advise is to order up a barrel from a Canadian dealer. Why hang your ass out there? For years I brought up what I needed until the rules changed. I my work I can't afford to be banned from going into the USA.

That brings up a good point. With the State Dept tightening up on enforcement of the export regulations of late, it would not surprise me in the least that when , not if, they hammer a company like Brux or Pacnor for exporting barrels without proper permits, they also could seize records of who the offending companies have sent product to, which could well be fed into the BSA list of "undesireable or persona non grata" individuals wishing to enter the USA.
Personally I think it would really suck to get a post card from Hawaii saying "having a great time wish you were here" from my wife.

Aw come on guys I asked a simple question. We don't need to go off on a tangent regarding ethics or law.
Just a simple question looking for a simple answer.

Answer to your question.
According to several top rank shooters I know personally in the US, who either do or have used Brux barrels, they are very good. I have no 1st hand experience with Brux barrels.
To state that they are better than or equal to Krieger or Rock Creek or Bartlein or.... will all depend on the individual barrel. All makers sometimes build a dud. Personally brand makes no difference to me, it is how they shoot that in the end determines which is best.

The fact that Brux, like several other barrel makers in the US are not registered to legally export their products, and the fact that they will ship with no permits, is also I believe, prudent to know. As I stated in an earlier post, at some point someone is going to get bitten in the arse, to know that going in is important I think. Government agencies with essentially unlimited power and little accountability love to make examples out of small businesses and individuals to make a point. Ask Randy Weaver or Bruce Montague how their lives have been affected by ignoring some inconveinant laws.

Please understand I am not trying to come off as "holier than thou" or preaching ethics, just trying to help inform guys about the assorted BS laws I deal with every day, and detest, but have to abide by.
Whether or not anyone wants the info or chooses to heed it is wholly up to them.

Now thats the kind of answer I'm looking for, an honest opinion! Thank you ATR.:)
The rest of the commentary is not what was asked and most of us here are well aware of the laws regarding importation, etc., etc. It only raises the hackles of most by being reminded constantly by the same few who seem to be overly concerned about the welfare of others.:(
