i am thinking of buying an old BSA 30-06 from a guy. I shot it and it shoots very well with factory loads. 1/2 @100.

What can you tell me about these guns. It resembles a mauser action.

All in all they were well made rifles, and in my opinion just as good, if not better than the much vaunted pre-64 Model 70 Winchester.

If the one you are looking at has a Mauser type extractor on the bolt it is probably an Imperial (Also sold as a Royal in different markets) If it has a ported barrel and looks to have a very trim sculpted receiver and stock it is a Featherweight.

The bluing on the barrels usually wore thin long before the bluing on the receivers. The checkering on the stocks was hit and miss. Some were very good while others were not so great.

No one that I know makes an aftermarket stock or trigger for the BSA rifles so you will have to live with what it is wearing when you buy it. The good news is that their triggers, while very complicated are quite good.

I have a BSA .30-06 Bolt action (Stamped as such). it is a converted P17 action. if this is what you've got it is a very overbuilt, indestructable action and a very good CRF. they are heavy and ugly, but are strong enough to be converted to large "African" caliber rifles.

i beleive it is a P-17 action. It is a top loader and yes it is big and ugly.
But it shoots so darn straight i might just buy it. The stock is in good shape and the blueing is in need of renew but dam it shoots straight.
$250 too much?

I'm still looking for a BSA bolt if anyone knows where one is.

I know the BSA 7mm Mauser was sold. Not sure about the BSA Custom in .243

This guy is horrible for not updating his site.
