Gentlemen after several years of searching I have located a BSA martini in 310 cadet ,who in alberta would you recommend for a re barrel to 32-20 and scope mounting , thanks

Why would you want to do that?.310 cadet is a .323 heeled bullet and 32-20 is a .3125 that's a 10 thousands difference. CBE out of Australia makes a nice mold for the cadet and brass can be formed out of a number of cartridges. I use 7.62 Nagant revolver brass. CH-4D makes a die set along with others.

I really must stop and read before I post sometimes.I missed that you wanted to re-barrel and not re-chamber. Still if you reload you can get all the bits to shoot the old girl for less than a barrel job unless the bore is shot.

MR Moose you are so wise please pm me with more info, I do reload and cast my own bullets, I had one of these rifles that at some point was re chambered to 32-20 in my youth, I foolishly lent it to my sister and it was lost in a fire, after several years of searching, (stay away from pro line shooters in Calgary he has many of these fine rifles most totally customized, you can see them when they open the door to the right of the sales counter, they are never, ever, ever for sale, but you can stand there in awe and offer a second mortgage to no avail ) any way I found one here on CGN via a PM bought it and barrel looks very tired, especially on the muzzle , almost looks hand filed by a drunk, ( not complaining so happy to have finally found a donor action ) I am contemplating total blasphemy, mounting a stainless barrel and a scope, what are your thoughts ? also thinking of 32 hr mag as brass is plentiful, or .357 mag, need to check if action can take these pressures , thanks

When the .310 Martini Cadet rifles came into this Country, they were like the surplus SMLE and Lee Enfields ---put in a barrel on the sales floor and take your pick for $9.95. Many of them were converted to 32 Winchester using the same barrel, and rebarreled to 38/357 and 44 magnum.

Some were made into Varmint rifles using the .22 Hornet and .218 Bee and if you had some extra money, there was .222 Rimmed cases available.

There is a fairly good article in the " NRA Gunsmiths Guide" book on converting the .310 Martini.

Jason at Gunco in Ottawa, he has done lots of these.

Good to know. I also have a .310 for which I acquired an extra barrel (.310) for the purpose of having it re-bored to .357/.38 Spec. Does Jason also do reboring? A few years ago I contacted Ron Smith, who seems to be the "go-to" guy for this, but there was quite a wait and I "never got around" to sending it to him, which was really silly as I'd have shot it quite a bit by now! I understad that Ron's wait times are even longer now, although to be fair, he's apparently no spring chicken, so entitled to take his time.

I do have some brass and even the CBE mould (which is gorgeous) but I keep arguing with myself whether I want to get into casting or not, and every time I see a thread like this I just think, "Send the darned thing off and get it converted to .38/.357." Probably not necessary for 32-20 but I seem to recall that for .357 it's advisable to have the firing pin bushed as well. (Tip turned down to a smaller diameter to reduce he possibility of the primer "flowing") and set in a bushing to accommodate the smaller tip.

picked up some 32-20 on holidays, chambers fine, going to try some test shots Monday , still re barrelling to .357

Interesting. Some .310s will chamber 32-20, although mine won't. However, the .310 bore is .323" so you might have a bit of rattling as the .308" bullet goes down the barrel!
Still, you might be lucky. :)
