bsa 50mm red dot/power on off?

i've got a bsa 50mm red dot. i haven't used it in about 6 years but now that my son is at the golden age i thought he'd have fun with it on my ruger 10/22
it has the red button on the side where the battery goes in.
as soon as i put the battery in the dot comes on and the red button doesn't seem to do anything. it's been so long i can't remember how it works.
how do i turn the dot off i tried holding it pressing it ect...
is the button broke or am i forgetting something here?

thanks for the reply, I ended up twisting on the optic and the dot no longer works....kinda sucks but it was no good the way it was and bsa only has a 1 year limited warranty.
