I have a used BSA CF2 in 22-250. When I first saw it, the reinforcing rib on the bolt was on the right side of the bolt, and visible when the bolt was closed. I have fired it in this position many times without incident. A BSA parts diagram shows the rib on the right side of the bolt. I have since seen videos of this model being fired where the rib is very clearly on the left side of the bolt, and hidden by the design of the receiver. I have tried duplicating this position on my bolt and it seems that it will open and close with the rib on either side of the bolt. I have not fired the gun with the rib on the left side yet.
Does anyone know what the proper positioning for the rib is?

On the right. It's true function is as a block to protect the shooter in the event of a case failure which could result in the extractor being blown out of the receiver.

This isn't a BSA but it shows how that "rib" acts to deflect material when a catastrophic case failure occurs ...

The shooter was not injured
