Fella at work brought in an old rifle that he may buy. He wondered if I could find out a little more about it. I wasn't able to get any pictures but it's full wood, .22 "parkerifled" barrel. The wristband is stamped WM (or H)R. IV 1916. It's a BSA and I'd really like to see if anybody can tell me what the stamp on the stock is. It's an S, A with a broad arrow between the initials. South Africa?? Is this potentially a valuable rifle. It has a wonderful 6 aperture vernier adjustable peep sight. If anyone has any interesting insights, send me a PM. Thanks in advance!

1916 is wartime production, so sleeved or 'Parkerifled' barrel is correct.

SA is likely not South Africa, if a cartouche marked on the side of the butt, it can be read as Inspectorate of Small Arms, a marking applied in India.
S /l\ A, the broad arrow is actually a broad arrow directly over an 'I', the two appear joined as one.

In which case, a 1916 Indian Ishapore re-manufactured rifle would bear the mark of King George Fifth.

Georgus Rex Imperator, means George King and Emperor of India.

GRI V as opposed to GR IV

Thanks English, somebody on another forum mentioned India as well. There is definitely a GR under a crown, didn't note a GRI. I'll see if I can get another look at it.

Ipscgraz --would you believe $25
