Anyone else have one of these?? I don't hear much about them... I have one in 30-06 and have to say its prob one of the nicest built rifles from the early 60's

All the BSA rifles right up to the date they quit building them were for all intents hand-made. While the Majestic and CF2 were very fine rifles my preference is still the earlier Imperials with their CRF design.

Over the years I have owned several BSA rifles and pre-64 Winchester model 70s and in all honesty the Winchesters were not half as well built as the BSA.

My Dad's got one, also in 30/06, that he bought new back in the early 60's. I still remember the excitement in the house when it arrived from S.I.R. Sadly, Dad doesn't seem to interested in going out hunting anymore, so the rifle has been a safe queen the last twenty years or so. He hunted during most of that time, but had a final binge of buying new rifles and so they all got time afield while the BSA stayed home.

I always wanted one of them - used to think the muzzle brake looked really cool when I was a kid. But by the time I was buying rifles, there were none around to be had and I was lucky to find the Husqvarnas I now own in the attic of a gun store in Nelson that was closing down.

My brother gets that rifle when Dad passes on; I wish I got it, but it will get a good home with Randy. Besides, I got the Winchester 1895 in 30 US which was both my grandfather and my Dad's first rifles, so I have nothing to complain about.

I see them at the occasional gun show, but it doesn't seem like those who own them are interested in putting them on the market. Maybe I should take a bunch of pictures of Dad's and put them up at my website.

I have a couple of them, 7x57 and 30-06.

Very accurate and light.

They both have the same problem that very many BSA rifles have. Instead of useing a crossbolt ala mauser, they used a tapered wood dowel.

Now this wouldn't normally be a problem, but because the fit was so tight, not a lot of glue actually soaked into the wood. The dowels come loose under recoil stresses and the stocks crack behind the recoil lug on the receiver.

It's an easy fix, a decent bedding job fixes it nicely.

As far as I'm concerned, they are some of the finest rifles out there and reasonably price as well. bearhunter

I have one that was bought brand new in the late 50's from the local hardware store for the huge price of $40. My Dad has handed it down to me and is the only gun in my locker that will not be for sale. It is a 30-06 and is retired. I bought a new 30-06 to replace it.

Yeah thats the only drawback to the rifle is that it isn't CRF..but I don't mind too much. I only take it to the range sometimes or I just stare at it and admire :D

I wonder how much they fetch in good condition, though I don't think I could sell it..

I just missed out on one that was for sale from a dealer in Mission.I could not come up with funds quick enough and it sold.It was a Majestic featherweight 30-06.I am pretty bummed out about missing it.I have never seen one up close but have heard they are supposed to be comparable to the pre64 win70 featherweights.asking price was $500.00

No, they are not a Mauser.

BSA called their design an "Improved Mauser type" action. The early models were CRF but had a totally different bolt, safety and trigger design than the Mauser.

I bought one in the summer offof a guy on the huntingbc site. I paid $250.00 bucks for it and it came with a 3x9 tasco scope. Shoots quartes at a 100 yards. it has a mauser action and says nitro proof on the barrel. don't know if its a majestic featherligt but has turned out to be a great gun! now if I could just get a deer to stand in front of it everyhing would be just fine.

They are commanding higher prices all of the time. In excellent comndition, they will fetch $800 without much trouble. bearhunter

These sound like they could be very good actions to start a precision rifle project on. (Except you can't add aftermarket goodies), but does a guy need to?

Not exactly a "precision" rifle but my BSA Imperial Featherweight with SS King barrel in 338-06 will put 5 shots into under an inch @ 100 yards if I do my part.

The 4-lever triggers on these rifles are also fully adjustable and break like glass. No aftermarket goodies required! ;)
