Bdft, based on your pictures in Post #7 where the tag has no markings I'm sort of thinking that it was never issued to a Cadet group.
I've got a similar age and model with the same markings. But my issue tag refers to a Cadet Corps group that operated in New Brunswick from well before WWII to just before the war ended. This keys in with a serial number check which puts my own BSA's birthday as 1928.
And yes, these are a superb rifle to shoot. At the same time it both makes me look like a better shooter than I feel I am and teaches me that I'll never be as good as the rifle can be.
It's still a treat to own it for this period of time before it moves on to some new owner in due time.
