I picked up an old BSA Monarch a while back in 6.5 X 55, anyone know off hand what the twist rate is in these rifles? The reason I ask is I have approx 3000 156 gn dual diameter Norma FMJ nickel jacketed bullets designed for the 96 Swede. I'm hoping it might shoot them.

Thanks much Kevan for the info, 1-8.66 will be marginal for these bullets but if I can give them another 100 fps over the old swedes ballistics it might be enough to fly 'em true. I too have a lovely couple of these babies. The other one is in 270 Wby, no I didn't do this to it I bought it this way, but do not despair a change is in the wind.

Your BSA 6.5X55 has a 1 in 8.66" RH twist in a 4 groove barrel.
If it ever should require another home, I have 2 BSAs to keep it company.....

Kevan. I was a bit surprised to hear you say that the 6.5x55 has RH twist.
I have owned a number of BSA rifles over the years, and invariably they had LH twist barrels. [6mm, 257R, 270, 30-06]
However, I never had one in 6.5mm, so perhaps different machinery or an outsourced barrel?
