BSA rifles

Fixed it for you, I'm absolutely no fan of muzzle brakes on anything except a 50, but I have had my 458 BSA with the integral brake for decades and I'm quite comfortable with it.
On lesser rifles at least for me they are not needed.

Brake is obvious. I was thinking the ones with a broken muzzle.

The ones with the muzzle brake were the best - controlled feed, 3 action lengths, adjustable trigger, integral dove tails, well ahead of their time. But the muzzle brake was a noisy affair, just cut it off and you have one helluva good gun.
