Hey guys, posted this in the Optics forum, might find my answer here faster...

Thanks.

Hey guys, looking at getting another .17 down the road, looking for something light, not too hard on the $. One name that keeps popping up is the BSA Sweet 17 and if I get this, I'd be interested in the 6-18x40 model. Do any of you have this scope and if so, what do you think of it? Would you buy the same scope again?

I've shot mostly Bushnell Trophies in the past and have liked them, got a Banner 24X that I wasn't crazy about on my last .17...but HAVE had good luck with entry-level optics. Hit or miss I guess. Enough people seem to like the Sweet 17s that I'm pretty tempted...

Lastly, does anyone know where I might find on in S. Ontario?

Thanks,
Rob

I had one on a heavy barrelled New England. I liked it a lot, but I found if I played with the elevation knob too much, it would go out of adjustment. Having said that, I did buy it used.

I got the BSA Sweet 22 3-9 X 40. Haven't mounted it yet so cannot comment on the precision of the bullet drop compensator, but the image is not too impressive. I'd say on par with my Bushnell Banner 4-12 X 40AO.

For US$40.00 plus $4.00 shipping, I will not complain.

The guys over at RimfireCentral.com gave decent reviews so I bought three.

I've got a Sweet 17 3-12x40 illuminated reticle on my Savage 93R17. The sight picture is pretty small for a x40 scope. My Bushnell Banners seem to have a larger, clearer picture. I sighted mine in at 100m and used the AO ring to adjust for range. I leave the elevation turret set at 100m. It seems to work pretty well. I think the Bushy Banner would have been a better scope for the $$. What didn't you like about yours? Mine are only 3-9s and 4-12 atop hunting rifles, and they seem to work terrifically well for the price.

The last rifle I bought was a Savage .17HMR. Came with a 4-12 Sweet 17. Out to 200m the BDC seems to be just about spot on. I have found that out to 150m if I dial in the range then come back one click I'm bang on. At 200m just dial in 200 and your GTG. Have not found it to loose its zero when removing and replacing it, always seems to do its job, time after time after time. I would buy another but with a higher magnification next time.
Cheers!!

I have the BSA sweet 17 and also the Busnell 17 super 4-12 x 40, after trying both on my Savage 17 hmr., my conclusion is the Bushnell has far superior optics. The bdc, on both scopes work well. The cost from Bass Pro for the Bushnell was $169.00.
The BSA is now mounted on my Savage Mk11, and performs well for 50 metre .22 target work.I would recomend the Bushnell for longer range precision.Part number 71-4124
