Bevan is a great guy for sure! I worked with him for a couple years. Learned allot from him!

He could easily make the barrel. But his health is the governing factor right now.

This is not the first borowed gun that has come back in a mess.....there are two things that a guy never shares , his gun and his wife.....they can look , but do not touch....

Surprising too that he did not use a drill connected to the rod to clean it "deeper"..
 
I have lent rifles and shotguns a few times - now I am not so keen. I have to know you well and see how you treat your own equipment.

A couple of not so good experiences, but most have been fine.

I really feel if their was some inherent "history" with the original rifle. Then again if the connection were that close I would assume he wouldn't have lent it.

A 7x57 would make a nice little rifle.
 
The problem I have is whenever I've loaned a rifle lately it does not come back at all, instead an envelope comes in the mail with a blank signed check.
Little does the sender know I will take it seriously...

Ive lent a gun in the past and have borrowed one as well, both times there was never a problem, I guess it all depends on the person you lend it to, if there ever would have been a problem I felt confident the fella would have had it fixed regardless.
 
Just like rental cars... I have a couple rifles for the times that someone may need one.
I've got a brother that's not quite as a bad as the Bubba you described, but any rifle I've lent him comes back in worse shape than when he got it! May borrow his pickup one day...
 
I lent out my truck once so a friend could run an errand, it came back with a bent axle......I still haven't figured out what he did since he denied doing wrong .

Ilend stuff out but I expect it back abused... hence why i only loan out old disposable items now

I fully concur. I have a few old Enfields in the safe that will adequately do the job for "these kind of friends". I also keep one hid in the cabin for those "emergencies" off season that require a rifle.

I agree with other members who say never lend something out that you can never replace. Sh@# happens beyond your control. Still I can not believe someone would use a gun instead of a wooden staff for a crutch?!
 
I have learned over the years that there are a very few, select individuals that I would lend a rifle to.
Additionally, even these will not get one of my fine rifles, but a "loanable" unit, sufficiently bubba'd to cause no tears if it gets wrecked.

Most people who ask just get a flat "NO".

Anyone who would take a drill to clear a rifle bore is absolutely nuts, IMHO.

I have friend that has that disorder that everything has to be in it;s place etc .. He has to line all the shoes up etc ..
He borrowed my Model 70 300 win mag for moose hunting .. He treated that gun like gold .. He cleaned it ..oiled it ...wiped it off each nite after hunting .. It all depends WHO you lend a gun too ...
 
Rifle is with the gunsmith.

My friend is going even further down the road. As well as having a Ruger takeoff barrel installed, it is going to get Remington sights installed, a complete reblue, recoil pad installation, and........another Frankenrifle! :dancingbanana:

It has quite a nice walnut stock, and he is quite interested in how it will turn out. Not your usual family heirloom restoration project.

Actually thinking about maybe doing one of these myself. There goes the New Year resolutions!

I take a loaner gun to moose camp every year. I make it clear that anyone in camp could use the rifle in case of need. I would expect however that if in need of a crutch, the rifle could be used to shoot down a small tree or branch for the purpose. But for a friend in desperate need, I could forgive the loss of the rifle.

Yes, years ago I loaned a Cooey 22 to a friend. He left it in his trunk for weeks, and it came back with rust bluing, of the not so nice variety, and barely functional. Still burns me, but we are still friends.

If you loan it you best be prepared for the worst, or don't do it.
