Hi everybody, I'm not sure if this the right place to post this, but here goes. After some "issues" with landing a hundred pound hali last year I'm planning on making an old single shot into a "fish gun". I've seen in the EE where people have made "back packers" and was wondering where you can find the info on how much you're allowed to modify your shotgun, barrel length, overall length ect?

Thanks

Yup ...at least 26 in overall and over 18 in barrel = non-restricted
I cut mine to 18.25 to be safe

Semi auto centerfires have to have 18.5 in barrel for non - restricted

I remember years ago watching a fishing show and the guy used an M1 Garand as his "fish gun" for halibut.

Where you are matters.
You'd best check the fishing regs to make sure shooting a great, big, fish is legal where you are. Mind you, having a loaded firearm on any motorised vehicle is illegal.
"...To the hacksaw..." Use a pipe cutter. Cleaner cut that's easier to keep straight.
"...M1 Garand as his "fish gun"..." That was 'Jaws'. snicker.
