Bubba"s backyard bbq parkerizing

sorry I was on a tablet and tried to post a new job to resurrect this thread.tablets are horrible for real work.
anyway, here's some new items I did recently:

I know this is kind of an old thread, but I finally got around to trying the home brew park solution that was mentioned way back in this thread. I tried it on my Norinco 1911 that I did a bunch of stuff to to use for IPSC, and at the time I just did the whole gun with cold blue from Canadian Tire. It was definitely showing some wear after lots of holster time, and I wanted to change a couple things with it, so figured I'd try something different. It came out lighter than I had hoped and a bit splotchy, but it looks better than it did. It looks a bit lighter in person.

I did another Norinco in the home brew solution suggested in this thread, and it turned out better than the first one. I used a 236ml bottle of Rust Check rust converter, 3L distilled water, and heated it with a degreased steel wool pad until it was nearly gone, then put the gun in. This time I didn't include the manganese because I was hoping for a light gray, but it still came out basically black. Without the manganese, I had way less sediment in the solution, and I think that's why it came out more even. Last time I had sediment build up on any horizontal spots on the gun and the finish came out blotchy. I might try again with a weaker solution to get a lighter gray, because I was going to try a two tone finish on this gun with a dark slide and controls and light frame.

There's more pictures in another thread of this gun.
