Bubba-Scout, or "At least it's not an Enfield"

The whole 'scout rifle' concept was one of Jeff Cooper's more stupid ideas.
Why would you want a bipod on a 19" carbine?
Shoot it before you float the barrel. Floating guarantees nothing. Some rifles like it. Some do not. In that commercial stock it may already be floated too.

Cody where did you get the 45/70 done?

I have asked a few smiths in town for prices on the job and they vary wildly. I would probably prefer a .458 enfield or mauser from Zastava but I'm not sure if the enfield would end up costing more in the long run.

A guy from B.C. did it, though I had to get some rework done, he didn't keep to the quoted price and took about three times as long as he said so I wouldn't bring up his name. I think by the time I got it to where it is now I'm into it for around $1200. Would have been much easier to just buy an SBL. Some pics in this thread, I won't post pics in this thread to avoid changing the topic too much:http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...or-bear-defense!?highlight=bubba+enfield+bear

I still have to fix the bead on the front site and adjust the inletting a bit but I'm probably gonna put it up for sale within a month or two. Found a place that can order in left hand steyr's and need the money for that.

I made one once.

$19.99 MN barreled action from Century

$19.99 M44 stock

B square mount

Pistol scope

Killed a couple bears with it and sold it on this site.

It's a Mosin, so it's already better then a LE.
I'd go with the peep sight idea as well.

Or perhaps a good quality low profile red dot sight.

I don`t think the mount is reliable enough to hunt with or sell the rifle in good faith.

I am going to put some irons to it. I will not be using the mosin rear base. I am broke so think bubba.

Not sure if the area in front of the dovetail is too far ahead to put a barrel mount. Considering saving money and sticking with the bubba spirit by cutting a 3/8th dovetail into the 11mm base and one into the front for a fixed front blade. Sort of "muzzle loader" style.

Any other suggestions?
