One of these walked into a buddy's shop with some ammo... I'm a sucker for tragic old obscure rifles that Elmer Fudd used back in the day. We want to come up with a fair price for each other, he got it very very cheap. Been hacked and reblued obviously but it'll make a fine shooter... what's a fair value for it and per round of ammo?

I bought a real junker sporter of the same rifle for 180$. In like new condition/original I have seen them go for 1000+. I would say MAX 500$. Fair would be 300-400$... Ammo is expensive. Brass alone is like 80$/20 brass. You can also make your own brass for about 1-2$ using 45/70 brass. Per round of ammo I think 5$/round is fair.

I wouldn't pay a penny over $200 for a rifle like that providing the bore is in serviceable shape. $3-$5 a round for ammo depending on what it is. Premium going to modern production brass. Look at any gun auction or show and you're likely to find at least one of these things. They're sadly common.

I turned down a M71/84 which had a sanded stock but was otherwise intact for 250$ recently, that I would say 50-200$. Obsolete caliber, not very practical, relatively common and really only a good source of parts or getting a feel for what the rifle felt like.
