I got an Remington 1100 magnum 3" chamber in trade that I'm having some trouble with. Basically it's a jam-o-matic. After much inspection I finally determined that the carrier jams up against the Interceptor Latch. Both look to be slightly bent, enough to catch each other when the action cycles.

On further inspection I found this barrel has two gas ports. Everything I googled tells me that the 3" barrel has one gas port, the 2 3/4" barrel has two. Was a second gas port drilled into this barrel so it would cycle light trap loads? Would being overgassed cause too much force on the action and cause the carrier and interceptor latch to bend?

I've attached a pic of the gas ports in the barrel. Do you think that one of them is been drilled by a previous owner or are these factory? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

NOT factory drilled for sure

A non-magnum 28/30 " 2-3/4" field or trap barrel typically has two identical ports of .079" each, which is a #47 drill bit.

12ga-30”(Magnum) one .073”/ #49

Left port is original I would say right is a bubba

Yes, just drill and tap it, and install a flush plug screw.
I'd be inclined to open it with a #31 drill, tap it 6-48, and use a scope mount plug screw.

Your buffer will be badly beaten. But most buffers look pretty rough under normal use. I would inspect the link and see if it has marks indicating it was driven into the action tube to far.

Wow! The things some guys do to guns never ceases to amaze me. You may want to install a new buffer spring, the one in it could be old and weakened from the extra pounding? Might also be worth checking the bolt fork for a bent arm or broken end where it fits in the buffer and make sure the flat end that rides against the slide isn't damaged.

My 20ga 1100 was a 2 2/4 chambered gun and it had 2 ports. i assumed it was factory done as it was tapped and had a wee allen screw in it. the gun wouldn't always cycle with light trap loads, so would pull the screw until i used hunting loads, worked well. i'd check to make sure one of the holes isn't already tapped.
