It is chambered for .303 brit.
The barrel is 19" and doesn't appear to have been shortened.
The mag is short but, again, doesn't appear to have been bubba'd(that I can see)
No distinguishing markings to speak of. eg.No. IMKIII, No.IVMK.I etc.
Striking paint job on hand gaurd (in case you have a black and white monitor)

Anyway, just looking for some expert opinions on the subject.
Thanks for looking.:)

Started life as a No. 5 rifle. Cone cut off the flash hider. Forend and handguards adapted from a No. 1 Mk. III set. Short magazine, of course.

Bang on. Hollowed out bolt handle and lightening cuts to the receiver make it pretty obvious. Mag cut off slot on the forestock? I bet that site is graduated to 800yds. And if you look deep into the paint on the left side of the receiver, you might be able to make out the etching of the No and Mark, the SN, the date and factory.

Goddamn shame.:(

j-man you are correct. After quite a bit of elbow grease and a damp rag I am able to see(barely)"No.5 MK I ROP (F)
Below that is 3/46 and then the S/N (I assume)
Yes, sight is graduated to 800yds
Thanks very much.

Is it possible to bring it back to stock? The red paint looks like something you would see in a government arsenal to distinguish simalar looking rifle's. Why would someone do something like that to a NO5 when their had to be thousands of no4's. I have said before that every milsurp tells a story( in this case a horror story).

Kinda reminds me of a bubba'd No. 1 Mk. III i saw a while back. It looked entirely correct except it had about an 18 inch barrel and had the wood shortened to match. Looked neat, thought it might be a tanker of some type but figured it wasn't likely

It is salvagable, post a WTB on the EE or even try Numrich, Marstar or others - Save the No5!

Nah, put a scout mount in the handguard gap, Aimpoint Comp M2, a Vortex flashhider, a vertical fore grip and an AR telestock on it. Call it the SOCOM 5.;)
