I'm considering buying my first handgun, and was looking at maybe a Ruger Mark III, but they're not quickly attainable. How do the Browning Buck pistols stack up against them? (At least the Bucks are available) Anybody know these guns?

I have one - very easy to shoot, lightweight yet durable. Had some initial reliability problems but once it broke in it became super reliable.

I just bought my first handgun a few weeks ago, norinco np22, as for the browning buck, never shot one.

Direct experience with both and my opinion (I have seen many others on the forum feel the same way) is that both are pretty much on par overall (about equal in terms of function, accuracy, etc) but the Ruger is the more rugged, durable workhorse while the Browning is the more refined, better feeling one.

Of course each individual opinion will vary but I feel like you are going to find this is the general consensus. Both great guns and probably most people's top 2 choices for a .22 LR pistol.

200-400 rounds of CCI minimags and you're good.. Also make sure you loctite the sight screws.

Assuming blue loctite how often do you tear it down for a deep cleaning..

This is the only PITA issue I have with them otherwise a perfect shooter even better ERGO than Rugers IMHO.

Do you clean the loctite out each time and reapply?

You're on the right track with a .22 to start off with. Don't over look the Ruger 22/45 either; reliable, accurate, easy to maintian.

I have a Buckmark URX with the 7.25" barrel on it. It was my first pistol. I love it. It is very easy to shoot accurately. The long barrel and metal construction make it very steady to shoot. I put a scope on it, and then took it off because I preferred the open sights, which are quite adjustable.

Cannon

i have the buckmark and the ruger 22/45 lite and a gsg/sig 1911-22 and a S&W M&P 22

the buckmark is by far the most comfy of them all and the most accurate.
i got the bull barrel one, comes with the squishy grips, which are fantastic! and also stock with fiber optic sites.
extra mags are plentiful and cheap.

if i had to recommend a 22 to anyone right now id definitely say go with the buckmark.
the ruger is great but its half plastic.
the M&P is great but you cant find them OR extra mags.
the 1911-22 is great and is super nice to shoot but its big and not as accurate as the others (still uber fun to shoot!)

here's the one i have (i only had the red dot on it for the pic, i prefer shooting the open sites on it)
id recomend getting the one with the nice grips.... worth the money!

the M&P is nice is you shoot the full sized ones, so you can save on $$ and get the same feel (muscle memory)

Call P and D. From their website:
"12517 Ruger MK III-512,Blued/Synthetic, C/w 2 Mags, 5 1/2" 22 LR 470.00 NEW"

Buckmarks have a better trigger then the rugers, the ruger's are more durable. Neither one has an accuracy advantage, but the buckmark (at it's base level) is cheaper, usually around 350$ I didn't find the buckmark (or ruger for that matter) needed a break in period. You won't go wrong with either one, both excellent pistols, and better starters then the GSG. The GSG is cool though ;)

I'll vote for the buckmark.Mine's the cheapest version, has at least 10 000 rds through it in the last two years and the accuracy is great.I have a steel plate the size of a paint can lid that I hang at a hundred yards. The buckmark can hit it consistently.More so than the Ruger I had.Mine rarely gets cleaned more than once every couple months and still functions great.Hard to beat a Buckmark.

You can't go wrong with the Browning Buckmark (I had the Camper). It's an excellent .22 pistol.

I had one and traded it away on a Chiappa 1911 (still kicking myself for that one!! f:P:) and would get it back instantly if I could.

It was reliable, easy to clean, and loved American Eagle .22LR 40gr solid ammo.

I had a Buckmark Camper as my first gun and it was a great way to start shooting, had a few stovepipes every now and then but no major malfunctions. As a new shooter it didn't take long to start grouping and I found the gun to be accurate I swore that I would never sell it and I didn't, it was traded for a really nice guitar.
I still miss it.f:P:2:
