Keep your Form6 and associated paperwork handy and present it to the border guard before they ask you for it.
It is sometimes the case that you will know more about the requirements than they do.
Having a shoot invitation/program handy (just in case) can help, but don't present that to them unless otherwise requested. This is no longer a requirement, but if it saves you the hassle, why not have it available.
Sometimes they will want to verify the serial numbers, so when you pack up your vehicle make sure you can get to your guns without much difficulty.
Coming back into Canada, present your PAL and declare that you have firearms with you. They may not ask, and failure to explicitly declare this could be problematic.
If you have your old registration certificates, they may make reentry into Canada simpler. It shouldn't, and it really makes no logical sense, but that has been my experience.
