Buckmark Rifle debate

I have a sporter

Pros - short, lots of fun
Cons - spits back powder at your eyes because action is right up in your face. Controls only held in place by grip scale. My grip scales warped. Can't use regular buckmark pistol grip scales to replace - is some special version of the buckmark pistol that has the right replacement grips.

A good rear sight for the buckmark sporter is the marbles Bulls eye sight comes up real fast on a moving target with the standard front sight.I also have one on my winchester 9410 and it works like charm on running game

Pros
Very accurate
Great trigger
Shoulders and handles perfectly
Light
The "pistol action" makes it very short for its barrel length

Cons
You have to remove the scope for disassembly
The safety isn't as accessible as on the pistol
 
Has anyone run across any sort of deflector to solve the powder spitting issue? I just got one after several years of qanting one. But the powder in the face is an major issue for me as im left handed. Some thing similar to the deflector on a remington 552 that can slip under the scope and mount to the rail is ideal but ive found nothing yet

mine does not spit powder. sounds like an ammo issue? I run AE 5022 through mine without an issue.

Do you know any machinists?
 
Sounds like a little project. Never really tested mine with different ammo types to see which spits back. Modify a Weaver type ring with a screw on shield, sounds possible to me.

It is an ammo issue. When I owned one of these rifles the Remington Yellow Jackets were particularly bad for it. Other brands were better. Wind direction also mattered. When shooting into the wind the debris from the ejection was more noticeable.

I have two and neither of them spit back debris... try different ammo... I have one set up with Mini-Mag 40 solids and the other with CCI SV's.
 
I'll add my name to the list of users that have never noticed the power spitting problem. That said, Our Buck Mark rifle has shot exclusively AR 38 gr. hollow points and CCI Mini Mag HPs
 
well i got to thinking yesterday, rooted around my scrap bin till i found a weaver ring that was lower then my existing mounts. did a bit of cutting to a empty powder bottle and while it won't win any prizes for beauty, it should work, which is really all that matters.

Try CCI SV's... I was out today and ran through 200 rounds, no flying debris... and very accurate.

Five round group at 50 meters;
 
I have a Sporter with a TRS 25 red dot that I use along with my Buck Mark pistol for rimfire steel challenge. I really like the combination.

FWIW I'm a lefty and I've never noticed any powder burn or ejection debris issues (I shoot mostly Federal 525 bulk ).
 
I have the laminate heavy barrel unit with a vortex strike fire 2 . Deadly on rabbits and grouse plus a lot of fun to shoot and not hard on the eyes. Grabbed mine shortly after Sail opened in Burlington for $ 639.

That was a nice buy....mine was $7-something in our local CT as I recall.
