Hi Everyone,

Im hoping someone here can help me out with this rather bizarre problem.
After MUCH research into what .22 handgun I should buy, I got a brand spankin' new URX Practical.

Took it to the range and first shot, i get a FTE.
2nd FTE, 3rd FTE!!, u get the point....

I was using Federal GOLD Target, the ammo that was suggested to me by the gun-shop owner, and online. The other ammo I read was good for the URX was Blazer, I happen to have some of that too, so I try it, same thing FTE!

Luckily there was a very kind and friendly guy at the range who was shooting a similar Buckmark and told me to try his Hyper Velocity Remington Yellow Jackets.

So i did, and it works like a charm, every time.

Can anyone tell me if they ran into this before? do i need to use HV ammo on the Buckmark? I have not heard of this before, and certainly no one mentioned it. However this guy at the range knew right away. So that leaves me to believe its a common issue.

On a side note I had a few boxes of premium Eley ammo, that failed too. I had one box of HV CCI's, they worked.
I tried my ammo on his gun, that's been fired over 2000+ and his FTE as well. So its not just my gun, or the fact i didnt clean it before I took it to the range for the 1st time.

Am i suck using HV ammo?

Usually its recommended to use HV for the first while to break in the pistol. Depending on the gun it may take 100 rounds, or a couple thousand. Once its broken in standard velocity should work fine.

I appreciate the responses guys.

This makes things even stranger in that case, if your using bulk ammo (and i tried that too) and the premium gold stuff, and some eley ammo as well.

However why would the other guys gun FTE when i tried my ammo if its been fired more then 2000+ times, his has defiantly been "broken in". So its either a huge coincidence or there is something more to this.

After doing some reading I found some Buckmark owners have stated that the site base screws need to be tightened on the gun. Im going to give this a try and I will report. Unfortunately im not going to the range anytime soon so i wont be able to confirm if this works right away.

Can anyone comment if tightening those screws fixed their problem or any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Frustrated URX owner :(

fixed the problem for me instantly and permanently. I just kept them tight after that checking them often. Good luck and let us know.

Mine actually worked fine out of the box with federal bulk ammo. The fte problem didnt happen until around the thousand round mark which I guess is how long the screws took to work free the first time. If yours did it out of the box its different than mine but check them anyways. Hopefully thats all it is cus its simple to correct.

Something to consider , it could be cold weather affecting the ammo or gun.

I had a Ruger 10,22 that would not cycle standard or subsonics in cold weather.

HV was OK

Make sure there is not excessive oil or grease slowing the cycle of the action.

Mentioned in another post that with the cheapo Federal or Winchester bulk ammo (from Wally's) my Buck Mark URX needed a couple of hundred rounds to settle in. FTE's only happen when the particular round is a dud and I usually get 1 in a box of 525 or 555.
Also noticed in the beginning that the 3 screws (2 on the sight base, 1 for the barrel) would eventually loosen up after around 200 rnds. (Noticed that my POI kept moving) Blue locktite solved this issue and the URX has been performing flawlessly.
