Buckmark vs MarkIII

haha... if the only disadvantage to the ruger is the slight learning curve for dissasembly... dont let that stop you, its actually quite easy, and in 10K+ rounds I have yet to need to fully dissemble it

I just ran a steel challenge with it as well, held up very nicely even while sopping wet in the rain

I never had too much experience with the buck mark so I cant say one way or the other with it.

if you pick the one that feels better to you, you wont go wrong either way,

no not a mag safety, at least I can fire mine with no mag,

but no they do not drop free, you hit the button and it pops out a but so you can pull it out,

it is likely my only negative thing to say about the 22/45 ruger mk 3,

do the buckmark mags drop free?

I have a Ruger 22/45 target and a Buck Mark Stainless Camper with Utra grips.

Both are very solid and accurate guns and will take all kind of amo. Try one in your hands to see which is feeling better. The Ruger can be a little tricky to take apart, but there are numerous tutorials on You Tube to help. And once you have done it a couple of times it is not such a big deal.

Personally I prefer the grips and the sights of the Buck Mark. (Please note that the grips on the Ruger 22/45 Target are integral and molded in, they cannot be changed).

The Ruger Mark III grips can be changed though, so you can find after-market grips that will suit your hand. You will notice that the angle of the Mark III and 22/45 grips are different.

Best of luck in your shopping they are both excellent guns and very cheap to shoot.

Mark III mags do not drop free from the gun, it's the only major downfall I've heard of them. Mag safety I think it's called?

If memory serves me, there is a way to disable both the magazine safety and make the mags drop free with a minor part, a bushing or something.

I have several Rugers, but I like the Buckmark too. As others have said, you won't be disappointed with either one. If you can manage to shoot both before buying, just choose whatever fits you best.

My Ruger MIII 22/45 Target does have the removable grip panels. Only reason I finally bought a 22/45.

Fantastic pistol! never jams, and I can clear empty 12 gauge hulls at 25 yards almost every time.
