Buckshot, slugs and deer

"...in some areas you MUST use shotgun with shot..." Where? Just curious.

Southern Quadra Island, Between Courtney and Campbell River, Cowichan Bay, Ladysmith-Nanaimo, Malahat-Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Qualicum-Parksville, Gibsons-Schelt, Pender Harbour, Powell R., Pemberton, Savary Island, Chilliwack Valley, certain areas of the Lower Mainland special license area and probably some more that I missed.

Whenever I have thought about hunting in one of the shot only places, I figured I would just use a bow.

The range is about the same, and I'm more confident of modern broadhead killing power than OO

Yeah - i gotta agree with Gatehouse. I was thinking about those areas but decided to give it a miss till i learn to use a bow. I'm not a big bow fan, but i think it's better than buckshot.

The learnign curve for a crossbow is much shorter than for acompound.

Still, within 2 weeks of steady practice in the back yard, you shoudl be able to use a compound bow adequately for most hunting.

Or so I am told :D I haven't killed anyhtign with a compound bow for al looong time... :D

I Guarentee you that if you buy a Exomag, you only need 10 minutes to site it in and for the next 3 years you'll never have to touch it again. After that its just shoot and point. All Excalibur xbows come with scopes which have yardage marks on them. All that you need to do is to be good at judging yardage

It was an ExoMag.... three shots at the target in the backyard... then it was six shots into running Boars...
Thats about as tight a learning curve as it gets

Judging yardage is 90% of bowhunting

I shot a doe two years ago with 000 buck, never again! After two good hit's from 20 yards, had to finish the deal with a .40 sw.

you had a 40 sw CARBINe with you plus a shotgun

I think he was carrying a pistol with him, completley legal in his area to hutn with a pistol. :D

The single projectile ban is in effect due to the close proximity to houses. The fraser valley is an excellent example of this regulation.... lots of coyotes and other varmints enter onto farmers fields... but the back stop is another farmers house ( way in the distance). A slug or a rifle round is more likely to travel the distance than shot is.
Its for safety, not efficiency.

Interestingly enough hoochie, in studies where they've done the same thing for the same reasons in the states, they've found accidents are higher with shot than slugs.

Frankly - i can see slugs only as a way to keep ranges short (goodness knows they ain't going far) but I think we'd be safer with one well aimed round than spraying the landscape.

There is an ongoing study in Pennsylvania regarding shot versus slugs... they are very close to a ban on buckshot in all areas. I can't find the stats..... I think it was in New Gun Week. :?

Single projectile forbidden..... 8)
hmm.

Look up for G11. the first 3 rounds are in so called "wave of impact" , no recoil operation for the three, no cases to define a "round" and the projectile is definately more than adequate for hunting.
