Buddy at work invited me to hunt deer this fall...

I hunt deer with my BLR - if I waited til I saw a deer to cycle a round up, that deer would be in the next WMU before I was even close to getting a shot off. I actually don't know anybody who hunts deer with an empty gun.......

Well if he IS a Fudd...he's gonna have a fit when I show up with this lol
Fudd or not, don't overlook that you have been invited to hunt as a guest with others who may or may not invite you to hunt with them again. This re-invite will largely depend on their impression of you and your actions while with them this fall.

This is something my daddy pointed out to me years ago and turned out to be VG advice.

I completely understand that. From my side of things...if they would discriminate against me and not ask me again based solely on the appearance or function of my rifle, it's not likely I would enjoy their company or want to go with them next year anyways. If it's really that big of a deal, I'll politely decline their offer and stay home. If on the other hand they have a specific issue with me...I can either see my fault and change it or decide I may have done nothing wrong and move on.

They must have previous expierience with some one carrying that exact gun and have a real world prejudice against it, you are the guest and a good guest follows the basic rules as laid out by the host. No Mosin means no Mosin, if you can not follow that simple rule how can they trust you to follow any other?

Hunting is inherintly safe if you follow the rules, but can be dangerous if the woods are filled with cowboys

I'm the one that initially said the Mosin probably isn't a good idea, the fact they don't want me bringing it only reinforces that. I've little intention of ever taking it hunting and certainly not if I'm specifically asked to leave it at home. I only said it's quieter to chamber a round as a comparison between it and the only other 'deer caliber' rifle I own. I don't know where you think I'm disregarding their rule. I also said my M305 probably wouldn't be a good idea either, however the general consensus seems to be that I shouldn't have any issue bringing the Norinco except if anyone judges it by its looks or operation.

I would hope I'm not being judged as a dangerous cowboy based on anything I've said in this thread, I certainly don't think I've warranted it.

Thanks guys.

My big concern with the M305 is how loud it is to chamber a round...got told I'd likely scare away anything I planned on shooting. I don't know if the guy was a Fudd or not, but to him having a round in the chamber with the safety on before you actually saw a deer is strictly verboten. Buddy who invited me doesn't want me to bring my Mosin because his brother had one and they said the safety is just too damn dangerous. I don't completely disagree with this, it truly is a pain in the ass and I wouldn't trust having a round in the chamber myself...but it's far more quiet to put one in the pipe on the Mosin than the M305.

lol :D
load ready and safety on, keep muzzle in sade direction, no way anyone hunting big game walks around with unloaded rifle, with small game you can get away with that but when you chasing that buck of a life time, noone is stupid einough to go fidling with bolt or any other action to get a shot

Once you get to your stand, load the rifle nice and quiet. Buddy will never know. I've noticed a lot of Ontario hunters have a real aversion to walking to the stand with a loaded rifle and have seen some get quite ornery about it on the board. I think the paranoia is stupid but maybe after all those years of drinking Liberal and NDP tap water (it's just like the Kool-Aid but more dilute) they've convinced themselves that it's impossible to walk through the woods with a loaded rifle without accidentally shooting a kitten every second step.

Not this Ontario Hunter...I'm loaded as soon as legally possible. Seeing as we're all supposed to treat every gun like its loaded I don't see how this could be an issue.

I wouldn't last 1 hour in a camp with some fudd trying to tell me when i can and cannot have my gun loaded.
