Budget 6.5 Creedmoor Suggestions

I am looking to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor. I don't want to pay much more than $1000.00.
I am planning to use is for deer and as a range gun to shoot some long distance targets (not competitively).
I already have a 30-06 in Vanguard S2 that I like and use for larger game.
I was looking at another Vanguard S2 but would like some reviews and other suggestions.

Apparently, the Ruger American Predator shoots really well. Change out the stock to a Boyd's Prairie Hunter. Prophet River is selling Remington 700 barrelled actions for $649.

Edit: price should be $689. Currently sold out.

Depends how cheaply you want to go.

I agree the Howa 1500/Vanguard are great guns. But if that is too much money. Maybe consider a Mossberg patriot. Not bad for around 600.00. Mine is currently shooting 3 rounds in the bull and 3 just outside at 100. And that is my first time at the range with it where I was shooting it.

I know it can do better. The problem was me.


But I will be upgrading to a Howa or similar sooner or later.
 
Thanks for all the feed back. I am leaning heavily towards the weatherby. Is there anyone who owns the vanguard in 6.5 CM who can provide a review? How does the 700 stack up against the vanguard for accuracy?
 
I’ve tryed to buy/ make a target / hunting rig for a while now.

Always the barrel is either to light for Target or to heavy for hunting.

Hunting is only a couple of shots, Target shooting is usually 80 to a 100 shots.
Barrel gets very hot when Target shooting,so keep that in mind.

I’m currently running two rigs, Browning x bolt 7mm for hunting, I tryed Target shooting with it, but the barrel heats up to fast.

I have a Savage 10 TR for Target shooting, but it’s about 10lbs.
I am installing a 6.5 CFW barrel on it though.
Should bring it down to 8 lbs.
And be great for both hunting and Target shooting.

Heavy bbls don't heat up as fast as a sporter bbl, but then they take longer to cool down too.
 
When your sighting in your sporter barrel you have to be mindful that accuracy will be affected after the 3rd or 4th shot because the barrel heats up. What I did is fire the first shot and wait for the barrel and wait 5 minutes before 2nd shot and then again for the 3rd shot. Look at the grouping (make scope adjustments) and do it again - until you have zeroed the scope. For hunting you want the first cold bore shot to be on the money.
 
I snagged a left hand Ruger American Predator in 6.5 recently. I had it out for the first time this past weekend and tried it with 2 loads...140SMks and 140SSTs. Both were loaded with a little under 41 grains of H4350, and both shot sub 0.5" at 100.

My intended use of the rifle is the same as you describe. I know everybody says to change the stock, but with performance like that with the first two loads that I made, I don`t think I`ll be changing anything.

I have it down to the Vanguard or Tika T3x. I have seen the T3X has made significant improvements to things like the injection port, bolt shroud and stock. I would have to pay about $150 more for the T3x. Has anyone shot both of these two rifles in 6.5 or any other calibre to see how they compare? I still think that howa/vanguard has a better bolt and barrel but it is also about a pound and a half heavier. I have also heard reports that the Tikas have lower velocity by about 200 fps compared to other similar rifles. That combined with a shorter barrel would make the Tika shoot a little less flat, would it not?
 
Well, I finally ended the agony and just made a decision. I went with the Vanguard. Many of the older discussions on this site helped me out as well as your comments and PMs on this thread. Thanks very much for your help. For those who are curious, the reason I went with Vanguard over Tika was mostly for the quality of the build. Tika has fixed things like the bolt shroud and aluminum recoil lug, but Weatherby has not had to and that gave me confidence that it was a better built and safer product. I shouldered both rifles and thought both felt good. Price was not really a consideration because they are similar, both rifles have excellent accuarcy but Vanguard had a better and more durable build (in my opinion).
