I'm currently looking at buying a bolt gun, yes a budget bolt gun in 243 or 270. So much to read up on, I can't come to any conclusion. This gun will be for 150-300ish yd shots which is a stretch where I hunt. Please don't flame me for going cheap as some might say, just want an accurate gun to be used for deer a few days a year. Not intrested in scoped models as I have a good scope waiting to be mounted. Stevens 200, Savage Axis, Mossberg 100atr, Ruger American, Marlin X7 and any others I've yet to research. What gun would use steer me towards please, thanks

All these budget guns spit lead out the End, some are fairly accurate an will kill.

My choice will be a Marlin X rifle.

either an all you mention will work, some may feel better than others to ya, grab one of em an make a decision...

I just seen the Savage Axis with scope on sale for $269 in 243cal and model 111 package for $399 in 270 win. (not a site sponcer though)

I have a couple of Ruger Americans, 243win and 270win, just bought them in the fall, both are accurate and handle very nicely, can't really believe how much I like them for being such an inexpensive rifle. I'm more of a semi-auto kinda guy but these have nice smooth bolt stroke and a short bolt lift, tang safety, detachable mag, good recoil pad and they are lightweight and they fit me well.

May be more of a question of availability than anything else. I have a Marlin X7 that I'm quite happy with given the low price.

I'm happy with my stevens 200 but have shot both the savaage 10-110 and axis and the mossberg and marlin. I'd go with the savage 10/110. Same action as the stevens but has a stiffer stock and detach mag. Altho the axis's I've shot all shot very well they just look a lil to fugly for me...and I shoot a stevens lol

theres a savage axis in 30-06 on the EE for $275 + shipping, if your on the a budget buy the cheapest thing you can find, but no remington 710 or 770

Bargain Buster's are not worth it! My advice, save up a little more and go with quality. Buy once, instead of twice. You won't be sorry.

I agree!!

I once bought a Savage 11 bundle in .308. It sits in the safe and I always reach for a Tikka or Remington. The Savage just doesn't rate.

Yup get the Vanguard, I just bought one and like it so much I have another on the way. I can't believe how well built they are for the money, do some research on them and it's almost impossible to find anything negative about them... except some people complaining that their 7.5 lbs weight is too heavy....creampuffs
