budget over/under?

I see fairly rough Superposed guns for around $1k but decent ones are about $1300 to $1500. High quality guns but if you need to repair them then there are no drop in parts, most everything needs to be fitted still, I'd take one over anything new in the $1500 dollar range being offered today.

For less money than a Superposed but still a very good gun is the Ithaca SKB 500 in 12 gauge. I only have personal experience with the 20 gauge version but it was a damn fine gun that sells at bargain basement prices for what it is.

Another vote for the Ithaca/SKB 500-600 series guns. These are excellent guns in all respects and are a great value in the sub $1500 market. As always with most guns that are no longer in production parts availability can be a problem but they are very well made and rarely require repairs, they are an ideal choice for a moderately priced over/under for a casual shooter or hunter.

I use a Beretta BL3 in 20 guage for grouse when I am out with the dog. Nice and light to carry points well for me. Don't use it for targets. The 12 guages are light to carry also. When I am on the quad I carry a Beretta FS1 20 guage. The BL3 weighs 5 pounds 13 ounces. The FS1 is quite a bit lighter than that.
