budget priced scopes

I am new to scopes and do not know much

i was looking around to see the prices on the different budget priced scopes

interested to know what the difference would be between BSA, NCstar and Tasco

What if we add Bushell to the mix?

Any opinions and suggestions please?

I'd buy a quality used scope, over new low-end stuff.
 
how much are you looking to spend? 1-200? check out vortex crossfire they are under 200 and come with lifetime warrenty.
 
I have had good luck with the Bushnell Banners, but it all depends on the application! What kind of magnification you want? I have a 3-9 x 40 with illuminated reticle that is decent that was $130. I also got a crazy deal on a fixed 4 x 32 for $50. And if you want something with some magnification the 6-18 x 50 with adjustable objective is pretty damn good for $180! If a fixed power at 10 x is something that would interest you Bushnell 3200 10 x 40 with target turrets is about the best bang for the buck in my limited experience! It sells for about $230 I believe!

X2! ..... by the time you replace the cheap junk that you waisted ammo on or broke down on a hunt, you'd be better off buying quality in the first place. Either way, you're going to want to replace it down the road and that will cost you more in the long run.

Buy a used Leupold off the EE. Good optics, good service here in Canada and not that much more expensive than a new, cheap, crappy, pc of junk, ugly, uncool scope that your friends will laugh at, if you have friends. ;)

around what price do they usually sell at in used but good condition?
 
do not buy a 'budget' scope. There is no such thing as a good cheap scope but there is such a thing as a good scope for cheap. Shop for a used Kahles Helia.
 
For a new scope, I would take a good look at Redfield. They are supported by the excellent Leupold warranty and should be pretty good mechanically, as is typical of most Leupold scopes.

Otherwise, buying a used quality scope would also be a good choice.

Really not much recoil from those rifles.... but still, put a decent scope on it.

For a fixed magnification scope, I had (and many others also had...) a Bushnell 10x40 mildot with the target knobs on it. Great scope for the dough, and a very nice match with those M305's. Get good mounts/rings!

For a variable magnification scope, go with a Leupold, lifetime warranty, and easy/quick to get things fixed in case of problems. Not many problems though. Even a lower-end LeupoldVX-1 would be good.
 
M14 type rifles are fairly hard on scopes, as the scope is exposed not only to recoil like any other rifle, but also to the shock from the bolt and operating rod slamming forward into battery. Cheap scopes generally do not stand up well to this sort of treatment.
