Budget Scope options for Ruger SR22

Hey Guys,

Just needs some help deciding on a budget scope for my Ruger SR-22. I originally started with a cheap Tasco Red Dot, but I wasn't a huge fan of it. So I got a open reflex style sight from NCstar (D4B), but then that died about 2 mins after mounting it (light just went out and never came back). So I've ditched the cheap Red Dot idea as my main optic , but I might add an open reflex sight as a secondary optic later on, but for now I think I want to go to a scope. These are the ones I was looking at, tell me what you think and would recommend:

Bushnell Banner D&D 4-12x40 AO
Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 AO
Simmons ProTarget 6-18x40 AO (but can't seem to find this one anywhere to actually see?)

There are a few others, but this is what comes to mind right now. I like the idea of the Simmons ProTarget because its calibre specific, but is this neccessary?

I want this to be a more "tactical" setup, and used for <100 yard shooting mostly, which is why the AO scopes are interessting me most.

Also, can anyone comment on mounting a Red dot on top of a scope, or using a 45deg weaver rail? Is this practical/useful?
 
Oh also I went to Cabela's and the sales guy there was very high on the Cabela's branded rimfire 22lr calibre specific scopes, these any good?
 
I'd spend a little more and look at one of the Bushnell Trophy XLT 1.75-4x rifle scopes.

For your set up, IMO a 4-12x is over powered, and the AO feature won't give you much of an advantage with that sort of rifle. With a "tactical" set up like yours, a low power adjustable scope will serve you well as you are planning on keeping to shorter ranges. The Trophy series is much better made than the Banner series, and the slight increase in cost is well justified.
 
Hmm. Budget eh. Tasco makes a cheap (approx $70) rimfire 3-9x40 that I've had on one of my 22s for years. No complaints. Came with a .22 boresnake too.

For a fixed power, Barska actually makes a decent 4x32 scope ("contour" 4x32) that is rock solid. It's built for the SKS so it will handle the rimfire guaranteed. I picked one up with a mount for the SKS for $120. If you can find one that isn't packaged with the mount it will probably run around $100, possibly less.
 
A Redfield Revolution will set you under 200.00 and will be a top scope for your needs and last you a lifetime... JP.

This is what I was originally going to buy when Cabela's had their Trophy XLT 3x9-40 DOA600 on sale for boxing day for $120 ( Was actually probably going to put this on my new Savage 111FCXP3 and put its package 3-9x40 bushnell on the SR22). However I thought that getting a scope with either AO or that was set for 50yards parallax would be better for the distances I would be shooting.

Is this really a concern? Is going with a rimfire/shotgun scope set at 50yards that much of an advantage?

That being said, am I better off taking my Savage's scope and putting it on the SR22 and putting a couple more bucks into something decent for the Savage?
 
Oh also, are low powered or fixed zoom lenses better for tactical setups and "target aquision"? And coming from a photography background I know that fixed focal length lenses generally have much better optics and light transmission than zooms, is this the case with most rifle scopes too?
