Kind of thinking about getting into waterfowl shooting or at least acquiring a firearm that I can lob steel shot out of. Downside is I'm broke enough I shouldn't even be thinking about buying another gun but alas we all have our issues(I've been thinking about switching to street drugs...I hear heroin is cheaper in the long run... :p ). So what is out there suitable for getting into waterfowl that is cheap with removable chokes?

Do you have any preference about action or price? Just the cheapest thing to shoot some birds? Get a Maverick pump. Not that pretty, but it will do everything you need it to do.

Check for and old 870 they are going for cheap sometimes you can find them with newer barrels or just shop on EE for about 350$ you could be all set up

If you are really thinking of shooting waterfowl the gun is going to be one of your cheaper investments.

Lots of them can be had on the EE from under $400.

The words "cheap" and "waterfowl" do not go together, unless you already own half the gear.

The only way it can be done semi-affordably, IMHO, is if you use a single shot shotgun (to save on ammo) and 3-6 decoys, and a good set of waders or a cheap canoe. Once you start talking about decent repeating shotguns and the high ammo cost, about huge decoy spreads, about duck boats, it gets pricy. In the places my buddies hunt with me, we could still get good numbers of birds with the setup I mentioned, but most people don't have that opportunity.

Lots of choices. if you want new the Mossberg 500 is hard to beat. Personally I'd keep an eye on the EE, I picked up a mint Winchester 120 Ranger for next to nothing.

Look for a Winchester 1200/1300/1400/1500/2200/2400 type shotgun, either pump or semi. Most ones you'll find have choke tubes. And you should be able to find a working field gun for $200 easily.

Yeah, what CoachZed said, the gun will be likely the cheapest part of your gear. At a bare minimum, you'll need 6 decoys, a box of ammo, waders, maybe a call. That's close to $200. Don't worry about camo, you can rip up some burlap then paint it diff colours and pin it to an old coat - just stay still. Oh, and don't forget. You can hunt ducks either with decoys on land or water, or jump-shoot them in low-lying marshy areas, or pass shoot as they fly between feed and roost.
