budget spotting scope for the range ... thoughts on this crappy tire special?

I don't have that model, however, I would suggest going and actually trying it out in the store if they'll let you.
If they will, check the darkest corner, so to speak, and see if the amount of resolution it provides would satisfy your needs for the maximum distance you'd use it at a range.
Everyone's eyes are different, i.e. do you wear glasses, light sensitivity, etc. for the price don't expect a whole lot, but it might be all you need.

I bought the same one a few weeks ago when it was on sale it was a POS very blurry and couldn't see .22 very well at 50 yards and made our eyes water trying to see anything at 100. Maybe I lucked out and got a crap one, I have looked thru a few that were bought at bass Pro for around the $100. And they were really clear compared to the Cantire POS, maybe there hit or miss??

as mentioned in the title, thinking of picking up this model from canadian tire just for bench shooting
Spotting Scope
Product #76-1086-0

looks to be like your regular chinese special.
anyone have the same model? thoughts?

Bought the same spotter on sale for $49 two years ago and continue to be pleasantly surprised.

It's clear, light gathering is good, focus and zoom work, and it seems fairly robust, as it rides around in a nylon bag in the trunk of the car, not in a nice padded metal case. The only part of it that's crap is the little tripod - a piece of cheap tin garbage. I found a much better camera tripod in an XS Cargo store for nine bucks.

A buddy bought one at the same time, focus and zoom didn't work, so he took it back and they gave him a new one that worked, no problem. He's still using his too.

I've used the scope out to 200 meters with 7.62x39, and out to 100 meters with .22 rimfire.

WIth two years of knocking it around at various ranges, it's been a very adequate spotting scope for $50 within the limitations I've mentioned.

I might buy another one just for when I eventually bung this one up.

YMMV. I've been happy with how mine has performed.

Ha Ha. This is awesome. I always wondered if anyone else in the shooting world bought one of these besides me. I bought the same scope from crappy tire about 2-3 years ago and it is still going strong. I have taken mine to the range and hunting for the whole 2-3 years solid. It has been on a goat scouting trip as well as a high mountain trip in valemount years back. Sure it is cheap but it is also light! great to backpack with. I went to staples the other day and got a cheap "digipower" tripod for it. The best ultra light/ultra cheap spotter going. Sure one day it is going to give up the ghost on that oh so important hunting trip but until then i plan to use the hell out of it.

I bought the same one about 18 months ago and use it on a weekly basis out to 100 yards. No problem seeing .223 holes touching. I don't think I'd want to stretch it much further though. For $50 on sale it was pretty tough to resist and I've been satisfied for the price. I agree the tripod is a POS!

I got one on sale...Used up some CT points and it only cost me $38, taxes in. For the price, not bad. Crappy tripod, but what do you expect. I can see .22 holes out to 100 meters and that's about it. Hi-viz targets would make it a little easier, I suppose...

I agree with everyone. Reasonable 100 yard scope, especially considering the price. I would not pay full price for it. Be careful, they are not robust at all. Mine toppled off a chair and broke a prism. I was able to take it apart and repair it, but they are not terribly solid. I added more glue to the second prism while i was in there.
