Thinking of picking up a “budget” stubby pump. Was looking at the Canuck Regulator, ATA Etro 9, Norinco or a Grizzly. Don’t want anything fancy. Just plain stocks, maybe a shorter butt stock and a 14” or less barrel. The only add on would be a side saddle for the receiver. What’s my best option here? Alternatively I would try to build a 870 from scratch with used parts.... Thanks in advance for the replies!

Id go with the Canuck Regulator. Building one from an 870 will probably cost you more than you can buy the Regulator for

I built one on a factory cerakoted Wingmaster (no idea when they offered that), 14" Remington barrel, XS big dot, Raptor grip, changed out the 3 parts for the flex-tab feature, Timney trigger fix, Volquartsen extractor, Vang Comp safety, S&J spring, follower and single shot extension, Blue Force gear quick adjust sling. Had a Mesa Tactical 4 shot side saddle on it but hated it so removed.

Turned out great. Only thing I have to add now is an L&M light mount and figure out which flashlight I like.

It feels way more solid to me than other short Raptor type grip offerings I've handled. Enjoy your build !

I agree! It’s a 1979 receiver, so I couldn’t go wrong. I’ve always wanted to do a tactical build myself off of an 870. I guess now is the time lol
