So I've pretty much set on getting a new target(quasi-F class) rifle. I'm not going to go into my rifle pick, as it doesn't matter. But my question comes down to optics.

The Leupold Mk4's and nightforce stuff is out of my price range. I'm looking for a scope that can "grow" with me, but not break the bank. So right now I'm looking at a Leupold VX-III in either 4.5-14 or 6.5-20, or a Bushnell 4200 series.

Would there be a downside to using either of these options? And could I get turrets for either a Leupold or Bushnell that I could mark my zeros with?

Sounds like my solution was more budget then yours (as the 4### bushnelle is still too far outside of my price range), but I've had GREAT luck with bushnelles 6-18x50mm Banner series .. I would recommend it over any of the 24x40mm scopes they offer.

You might consider googling Vortex Optics. I have the Viper 6.5-20X 44 and I'm quite happy with it. Great glass and great prices, plus a lifetime unlimited warranty.

Keep your eyes peeled for a used Vari XIII, 4200 or the like. Some deals are out there, just gotta be patient. The season is pretty much over for gophers, ground hogs & a lot of high power shooters, so I suspect you may see more over the next little while. Everone who will want to upgrade to the next latest & greatest will probably start thinking about it now before Christmas expenses get their last dime...

Take a close look at the Bushnell 3200 5 - 15 - 40 Tactical. Good optics and target turets!!

I've just gotten one of these scopes in the past two weeks, so far I'm really impressed with it.

The Bushnell 10x40 has received good reviews. The Weaver KT15 is a useful scope.
Don't overlook a decent used scope, either.
For F class type shooting, you really want something with target knobs.

I've got a Super Sniper 16X and I love the day it came into my life, my second choice was a Nikon Buckmaster with the 6-18 I think and side parallax. Both reasonably priced scopes with a lot of bang for the buck!
