I have a question for the guys who actually know! I have a rifle with a 20" barrel and fixed A2 butt, if I throw on a 16" carbine top end do I need to use a "Carbine" buffer or are they used only when you throw on a collapsable butt with a new buffer tube?

The collapsible buffer tube is shorter. You will need a carbine (shorter) buffer and carbine buffer spring.

*edit* Sorry, misread the question. No the carbine buffer is only when you put a collapsible stock buffer tube.

LOL .. I had to read your question again after the three different replies. Sometimes you read answers and they lead you astray... All you want to do is swap out your 20 inch upper for a 16 inch upper, right? Do it. Everything else stays the same.

:agree:

What they said.
I have switched different 16 and 20 inch uppers with different solid rifle stock lowers and carbine style lowers. The only issue that I ever observed was mildly weak cycling with Wolf 55 grn. loads.
