Buffer weight question

Hey guys, I have an ATRS MS with a 18.6" barrel chambered in .223 wylde with a rifle length gas system and a rifle length buffer. I've been told I can remove the weights in the buffer for a softer recoil as I have an adjustable gas block/titanium BCG. Is this a good idea?

Test it and see. Open up the gas until you get consistent bolt lock on an empty mag, then depending on the gas block, possibly one more click to maintain reliability. You could run into issues if you run a wide range of ammunition, so I tune for the weakest ammo in my possession. Doesn't hurt to have 100 rounds or so through it to break it in a bit first.
I run Taccom Lightweight buffers (no weights, 2 oz total) , and a Lightweight BCG and don't have a problem. It can reduce the recoil impulse.
I think bolt bounce is mostly prevalent during select fire, not semi.... unless you are Jerry Miculek.

Ya ill be taking it out this weekend, finally some nice weather.... just want to make sure I won't be damaging anything by going so light (just under 2oz) going to set the gasblock to the lowest and go from there.

Should be fine and not damage anything as long as it's not over-gassed, it just won't cycle. Keep adding gas until it locks back on an empty mag. Be familiar with what the ejection pattern is telling you. Probably don't have to start 100% closed but definitely not 100% open either.
Which gas block are you using?

Slr sentry 7, and ya I'm familiar with ejection pattern, been doing a lot of reading in the last week about the rifle, just couldn't couldn't much info with super light rifle buffers

I do not have experience with rifle length but the premise is the same.
Easy enough to tune while you zero an optic

I put a muzzle brake, a light weight bcg and improved buffer system (JP Silent Capture Spring - SCS).

The brake is very effective but very loud.
The bcg made a huge difference.
The JP SCS is a darn miracle!

Yes I've been looking at a silent capture spring. I would have to get a spacer as well for it. I've been looking at the armaspec, not sure how it compares to JP but it is a bit more cost effective

If you plan on shooting your rifle a lot, just go for the best solution. Either B5 stock or appropriate JP SCS buffer system!

The SCS is nice, removes that twang sound, but is heavier than other options if I recall.
So do you want less reciprocating mass and twang or more mass and no twang.

To me, it's a gun, goes bang and a little twang is no biggie. There are a few other tricks for the noise.

I had my AR setup similarly with an adjustable block and lightweight BCG. I punched out ther cap on the buffer and removed all the weights for an even softer shooting gun.

JP Enterprises makes some of the best AR15 race guns and also make real fast gun for some US agencies.
I actually shot a couple of $6000-$7000 JP race guns, there simply incredible and then decided to spend more than $1500 on JP parts to upgrade my rifle.
I got something like 3/4 of the performance for 1/2 of the total cost of the race gun ;)
