Looking for opinions on buget friendly 30-06 hunting rifle. Stainless steel with synthetic or laminate stock. I'm planning on taking it on multiday hikes through thick brush in coastal rainforest so nearly rust proof is a must, also light weight would nice.

Most of the true "budget" rifles (ruger american, savage axis, rem 783, mossberg patriot etc) come with neither stainless or laminate. You will have to look at what I would consider mid tier (but well respected) rem 700, savage 110, weatherby vanguard for those kind of features.

Cruise the EE for a used tikka, howa 1500 or Weatherby vanguard. They come up cheap once and awhile and are all a great value

You probably won't find anything stainless, but if you want something way better than any of the current production budget rifles, check out Tradex Canada. They've pretty much always got a bunch of nice used European rifles in stock. I've bought several over the years and never been disappointed.

Budget you say? Ive played that game. By the time I upgraded.. I was into it for more than a nicer gun. In my opinion, save a little more. New tikkas are what 1200 bucks? It will be cheaper than buying a cheap rifle and then buying another to replace it.

What is "budget" friendly? Everyone has a different budget when it comes to funds available to spend

Yeah I had a look through the EE.. I take it back. If all you need is a serviceable rifle, and you are willing to compromise on the stainless or the caliber, there are lots of options for less than the 1200 bucks.

But I guess we need to know more about you and your taste? Maybe a milsurp would be good. Or a lever. If youre hiking and not hunting maybe even a shotgun would be a good utility option. Small game to bear defense (I'm in Ontatio so I dont know about YOUR bears)

Let us know what you're thinking and we'll have a better place to start.

It's about 1200 for a new stainless synthetic tikka from Cabelas, so just seeing if there is anything else decent for less new. I already have a extra scope for it. I've been keeping an eye on EE.

I’ve got a Savage 116 stainless, CZ 550, had Mossberg, Ruger #1, Weatherby Vanguard and few more. I would buy the Tikka Stainless first. Next a Vangard or Howa.

My suggestion is to seek out a good quality used rifle that fits your criteria. This could save you 40% over the cost of new rifle that is still in production. If a used rifle is being sold with a quality scope and mounts, so much the better. Unless you are already deeply invested in .30/06 ammunition or components, there is little reason not to consider other cartridges of similar capability, so don't discount a rifle that checks off all the boxes except for the cartridge its chambered for. Aside from the EE, Profit River and Epps Sporting Goods usually have a broad selection of used and consignment guns to choose from. Something else to consider is that where it is you'll be hunting, and the range at which you'll be shooting, suggests that a rifle equipped with good quality iron sights might be even more appropriate than a scope sight, which would allow you to spend a bit more on the rifle. Avoid buying junk "race to the bottom" guns.

A Savage Axis Stainless with the Accutrigger when on sale (xmas sales are coming)...then keep an eye out for a boyds laminate stock.

Makes a good budget rifle that you don't mind if it gets beat up a little here and there...oh, and it will probably shoot pretty darn good as well! :)

OR, just bite the bullet and buy yourself a Kimber Montana, if that is totally out of the price point then a Tikka Stainless Laminate is probably the Best route to go!

Spent a lot of money in search of the right rifle for an intended purpose.
Finally realized that if you want a quality firearm you are going to go over budget.
I bought a Kimber in 270 Winchester and it's worth every penny.
There is a lot of inexpensive firearms out there and they will do the job but you can't beat the feel of a quality rifle.
Buy once and cry once you won't regret it.
That's my opinion.
